Writing Update - Mar 7th, 2025

Updated: May 16

Wasabi Gangsters!

As always, expect them every Friday morning 930ET along with a video talking about my reading and some other writing updates if that suits you better.

I like to be as transparent as possible in these. I’m excited for you all to be engaged with the world of Mercy—so here. we. go.

Primary Novel Update:

Book Two — Mercy: (Title to be announced) — is on the CHOPPING BLOCK.

More like a revising block… but you get it.

Current Word Count: 182,214

Chapter 17/44 Revised

After turning in my copy edits last week, I took a day or two off. But ended up going back to look over the most recent chapter I had revised two weeks ago.

Taking what I learned from the editing process and tacking it on to my revising has greatly altered the way I look at the manuscript. Cutting things down to make them simpler and more concise has become easier (though I’m not perfect) hence the importance of an editor. I’m so grateful for the York Editing Guild and Gracie for helping me along. I truly took so much from her work on my novel and I’m taking it forward with books to come.

Cheers to a (hopefully) smoother process.

Mercy: Tears of the Fallen

Post Copy-Edit, Pre first proofread word count -

170,065

~600 pages pre-format

This was an experience. I turned around the copy-edits in 6 days. And wow am I happy with where the MS is at. My first proofreader is going through it currently. And another beta reader looking it over as well marking down notes.

The goal is to rework things if they truly need it (inconsistencies and so on). But I’m 99% confident we removed all of those in the copy editing phase.

Any major adjustments that need to be made as I read through the first proofread will be done promptly as I’m going to bust my ass working through that to for a quick turn around for proofreader number 2.

Then, E-ARCS will be available! If you’re signed up to the Runeborn Tier, I will be asking for an email of which to send it! And right now, you can access the copy edited “The Before” along with an early look at some artwork I will be delivering for free here on Patreon next month.

I also decided to tack on a short contemporary poem in the very back of the book—for those interested in some theme concepts I was playing with when writing the book.

NOW!!! Some more exciting news.

The “Minas Tirith” on steroids is being worked on right now by a fantastic artist who has also collaborated with Andrew Watson. I’m so excited with what I’ve seen so far.

My goal is to include two poster prints for my reviewers who are getting physical copies. That is a shorter list—simply because I’m sending out packages for a good amount of reviewers to receive my book. And potentially some of your favorite booktube/bookstagram content creators will have giveaways with my book (hopefully) as I’m planning on sending extra copies to several of the reviewers.

Let me know what you guys want to see from future Patreon Tiers. I have some ideas for post book release Tiers and rolling them out over time as demand increases to get people more ingratiated into the universe of Mercy.

Anyways—thanks so much for taking the time to read this. Grateful for everyone who takes the time.

Stay dangerous,

Chance
