Writing Update - Apr 4, 2025

Updated: May 16

Wasabi Gangsters!

As always, expect them every Friday morning 930ET along with a video talking about my reading and some other writing updates if that suits you better.

I like to be as transparent as possible in these. I’m excited for you all to be engaged with the world of Mercy—so here. we. go.

Primary Novel Update:

Book Two — Mercy: (Title to be announced) — is on the CHOPPING BLOCK.

More like a revising block… but you get it.

Current Word Count: 181,410

Chapter 31/44 Revised

So got a good amount done! <200 pages left to go on the revision which is super exciting. And the part I just worked on was a moment I had been building up to since I set out to write this series. And the moment of catharsis was one I’ve been waiting for, that has major implications for the story to come.

I was able to add in some juice to the scene too, and clean it up a whole lot. Between that and the scenes I worked on over the weekend, I’m emotionally drained and fatigued… lol. They took a lot out of me. And fortunately I’ve gotten better as a writer so there’s even more emotions I’m feeling seeing that growth.

Mercy: Tears of the Fallen

Post Copy-Edit, Pre first proofread word count -

170,065

~600 pages pre-format

The second third was sent off earlier this week to the final proofreader, and we have less than a hundred pages to go. I’m hoping to get this one finished up by this weekend so we can start the formatting process with Abel—the author of The Crimson Fire.

Super stoked to get these ARCs out to everyone and to receive feedback. Figuring out this process of distributing the book for reviews, and then overall has been daunting. But I’m happy I have some great people in the community to help such as Slay, Esmay, and Abel. Not to mention all of the other incredible support for you readers who are looking to experience this world I’ve created.

I seriously cannot wait.

I also might look into having a hardcover available through Ingram Spark by launch—between that and paperback just depending how they do endpapers. Since I really wanna put the art pieces I’ve commissioned into the hardcover in some way—even if it’s not a special edition. So maybe black and white art??

Speaking of art, I also have another piece in commissioning for May. Robert Trotea (who did my first landscape piece) will be doing that piece along with 2 others before the fall! After having read the book too, which I cannot express how important that is to me. To have the artist invested in the project makes it mean so much more.

Again, very excited to share what I have with everyone.

Let me know what you guys want to see from future Patreon Tiers. I have some ideas for post book release Tiers and rolling them out over time as demand increases to get people more ingratiated into the universe of Mercy.

Anyways—thanks so much for taking the time to read this. Grateful for everyone who takes the time.

Stay dangerous,

Chance
