Writing Update - May 1st, 2025

Updated: May 16

Wasabi Gangsters!

Welcome to the official ME writing update.

As always, expect them every Friday morning 930ET along with a video talking about my reading and some other writing updates if that suits you better. These also will be going at as my weekly newsletter if you sign up for it over in my website—chancedillonauthor.com

I like to be as transparent as possible in these. I’m excited for you all to be engaged with the world of Mercy—so here. we. go.

Primary Novel Update:

Book Two — Mercy: (Title to be announced)

Current Word Count: 185,583

Chapter 44/44 Revised plus the AFTER

Alrighttttty—book two being finished has been an experience. I finished up some small additions and changes with it on Monday, and then it’s been emailed to 3/6 pre-aloha draft readers. For those of you still interested in alpha reading, have no fear—I’m still gonna send out an email, and you’ll be sent a separate questionnaire later this month to gauge your July availability for reading the next draft of book 2.

Really looking forward to seeing what the feedback will be and diving back into this book to make it as good as it can be.

My intention is to begin drafting book three within the next couple of weeks—but let’s move on to book one with more on the potentiality of that front.

Mercy: Tears of the Fallen

Post Copy-Edit, Post proofread word count -

171,011

Okay—so Annette (my proofreader) has officially sent me my absolute final draft of book one. I still need to dive in and make the changes, but it is in. My. Hands.

I look forward to working through this to get it formatted and prepared for July as reviews keep coming in. I have a few quotes and blurbs I’m waiting on for June so I can put them on the final edition of the cover and we will be golden!

No movement on the hardcover front just yet. I’m not really allowing myself to hunt down more there

yet. But I am looking forward to that part of the journey.

And so, with work still needing to be done on book 1, I likely won’t start drafting book 3 until the middle of May. If ducks fall in a row, I can have anywhere between 15k-30k words by the time I jump back into my book two revisions from the alpha notes I get early June.

I love talking about the story—so if you desire to speak spoilers, please reach out privately. I’m nervous but I cannot wait to hear your thoughts.

Let me know what you guys want to see from future Patreon Tiers. I have some ideas for post book release Tiers and rolling them out over time as demand increases to get people more ingratiated into the universe of Mercy.

Anyways—thanks so much for taking the time to read this. Grateful for everyone who takes the time.

Stay dangerous,

Chance
